Over Shire

‘Over Shire’ is a piano solo that follows the style of late 19th-century impressionist music. Impressionism focuses on mood and atmospheric timbre, and similarly to the painting style of the same name, conveys the emotions created by the subject, rather than a clear interpretation. As an emotional input, one of my favorite feelings is to stand on a high point that overlooks a place I live. The serenity of seeing a familiar landscape from a distance, and slowly letting your eyes follow roads, buildings, and landmarks passed daily is a feeling I wanted to emulate through the music. As a pianist from a young age, the sound of a piano is the one I am most emotionally connected to, and through the style of Impressionism, I aim to explore a harmonically vague and dreamy timbre that makes use of emotional playing techniques over the strict ruling of previous classical eras.
